When Life Comes to a Standstill — A Turning Point!

Image
Life has a way of reminding us that we are not always in control. Lately, I have been running in and out of hospitals because my husband suddenly lost strength and grip in his left hand. What started as a worrying change led us to a private hospital for an MRI and CT scan. The results showed no sign of a stroke, but they found a small growth, measuring about 3.2 cm, which was described to us as malignant. Hearing that word is frightening. There are so many questions. What happens next? Will he recover? Should we proceed with surgery? What if things become worse? There are no easy answers, and sometimes the best thing we can do is simply take one day at a time. In the meantime, we have been trying different forms of rehabilitation. He has gone for neuro physiotherapy and acupuncture, hoping to regain some of the strength and movement in his hand. He is also taking Keppra, which unfortunately makes him drowsy and sleepy at times, leaving him feeling weak and less energetic. And somewhere...

When Lady Luck Comes Knocking… 🍀

Image
Sometimes, I find it really tiring to keep going with my blog. There are days when I simply have nothing to write or talk about. Then, something happens that triggers a thought — and suddenly, I have something to share. Yesterday, it was about luck . 🎯 I have never, ever been lucky when buying lottery tickets. My usual “luck” is winning RM3 from a scratch-and-win, which basically goes straight back into buying another ticket! 😂 I’ve heard of people winning RM500 or more and thought, Whoa, how lucky are they! I wish I had that kind of luck. Yesterday, I bought three tickets. The first one gave me RM3, and the next one gave me RM6. Now, that may not sound like much, but for someone who hardly ever wins anything, I thought, Hey… something is happening here! 😄 At least I didn’t have to put any extra money into those tickets. I got back what I had spent — and perhaps a little more. So, I’m taking that as a tiny sign that maybe my luck is beginning to change. Life is, a...

Twenty years. That is how long it had been since we were all together. Recently, I attended a gathering with my ex-company colleagues, and seeing everyone again brought back memories of a younger me. Back then, I was slim and shapely—what we used to call a “Coca-Cola bottle” figure. 😄 Those were the days when we noticed who was slim, who was beautiful, who looked good and who had gained a little weight. Funny how, twenty years later, the conversation hasn't changed much. “She's put on weight.” “He has become thinner.” “She still looks slim.” Beauty. Weight. Appearance. We still notice. But somehow, I see things differently now. Over the years, my body has changed. The slim waist disappeared, the weight slowly crept in, and metabolism doesn't seem to work the way it used to. I've tried to keep trim. Sometimes successfully. Sometimes not so successfully. 😄 But today, I don't want to spend my precious time worrying about whether I f...

Every Day Is a Blessing When We Appreciate Life

Image
Every day is a blessing when we choose to appreciate the life we have. It has been six years since I left Intel. Living without the certainty of a regular paycheck was both liberating and unsettling. The first few years felt like a honeymoon. There was freedom, flexibility, and the luxury of time. But as the years passed and my savings began to dwindle, worry quietly crept in. Then one day, I paused to reflect. I realized that life is really about priorities and how we choose to spend our time. We can spend our days worrying about what we cannot control, or we can embrace the present and focus on what truly matters. We can choose to accomplish the things that bring us joy, purpose, and peace. These days, I wake up excited to tackle my little tasks. They may seem ordinary—clearing out things that have been collecting dust for years, ironing dresses that have been left creased, or finally scrubbing away the grease and stains in the kitchen where I cook so often. They are si...

Who Can We Trust Anymore? The New Face of Crime

Image
There was a time when crime seemed much simpler. We worried about pickpockets in crowded markets or the occasional house break-in. When we heard of crimes on airplanes, it was usually hijackings splashed across newspaper headlines. Today, the game has changed. Recently, I watched a video exposing how thefts are carried out on commercial flights. What shocked me wasn't just that valuables were stolen—it was the level of planning involved. It wasn't the work of a lone thief. It appeared to be a coordinated team effort. One person allegedly steals while another waits to receive the stolen items. The valuables are then quietly passed to someone disguised as a cleaner or janitor before the aircraft lands. If security checks the suspected thief, nothing is found. The evidence has already disappeared. It reminded me of a relay race. Instead of passing a baton, they pass stolen goods. Who would think of searching a cleaner pushing a rubbish trolley? Who would suspect a jani...

Does Marriage Need Children to Be Complete?

Image
For generations, marriage was closely associated with having children. In many traditional societies, the belief was simple: the more children a family had, the better. Children were seen as a blessing, an extension of the family legacy, and often an extra pair of hands to help with the family business, farms, or household responsibilities. Today, however, the world has changed dramatically. The cost of living has risen significantly, housing and education have become more expensive, and raising a child requires considerable financial, emotional, and time commitments. Many couples are also focused on building their careers, achieving financial stability, or simply deciding that parenthood is not the path they wish to take. Perhaps it's time we rethink what defines a successful marriage. A successful marriage isn't measured by the number of children a couple has. It's measured by the love, respect, trust, and commitment they share. It is also worth considering what...

Sometimes, I Just Don't Know What to Believe

Image
Reflections on Truth, Trust, and Thinking for Ourselves Every day, we are flooded with articles, videos, and social media posts claiming to reveal "the truth." Some seem convincing. Others leave us wondering if we've been misled all along. Today, I came across an article that made me stop and think. It wasn't just the content that caught my attention—it was the bigger question it raised in my mind. How do we know what is true? History has shown us that there have been genuine whistleblowers who exposed wrongdoing and paid a heavy personal price. At the same time, history has also shown us that not every person claiming to be a whistleblower is necessarily correct. Sometimes information is incomplete, misunderstood, or even deliberately misleading. That is what puzzles me. If someone genuinely uncovers the truth, should they remain silent out of fear? Or should they speak up despite the consequences? On the other hand, if claims are made without sufficie...

The Reason Behind the Delay

Image
There is a saying that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes we do not see the reason immediately, but when we pause and reflect, certain incidents leave us wondering whether there is a bigger purpose behind them. I consider myself a fairly organized and meticulous person. I rarely forget things, and I like to keep everything in order. However, no matter how organized we are, there will be days when things get a little muddled. Recently, I accidentally picked up my husband's phone, mistaking it for my old mobile phone. As I was about to use it, I tried entering the PIN, but it didn't work. I remember thinking, "Why is this a 4-digit PIN when mine is 6 digits?" Since my friend was arriving in about five minutes and I did not have time to go back up to my condominium unit, I simply slipped the phone into my bag and waited. A few minutes later, my friend called to say she had missed the turning and would be delayed by seven minutes. Then my phone rang. It wa...

RM1 of Compassion: When Small Acts Mean Everything

Image
Today, I found myself reflecting on something that seemed ordinary at first—but stayed with me longer than expected. I went out to buy corns and boiled nuts. My husband stopped the car by the roadside where it was safe enough for me to step out and buy from a hawker stall. Next to the stall, I noticed an Indian woman sitting with her young child, probably around three years old, resting on her lap. In front of her was a small cup with a few coins—contributions from passersby. I saw her, but I did not really act on what I felt. I told myself to mind my own purchase and waited for the stall owner to prepare my order. Then I saw a teenage boy bend down and drop a RM1 note into her cup. That small moment struck me harder than I expected. Suddenly, I felt a wave of guilt and shame. What is RM1 to me? Almost nothing. But to her, it might mean a meal, milk for her child, or simply a little relief in a difficult day. That moment reminded me of something I had read earlier o...

The Dark Side of Social Media: When the Screen Becomes a Weapon

Image
Social media has brought many good things into our lives. It connects people across the world in seconds. It creates awareness for those suffering from poverty, illness, injustice, or those simply needing help. Many lives have been touched because someone saw a story online and decided to act. In that sense, social media can be powerful and meaningful. But there is also another side to it — a darker side, and sometimes a very sinister one. When social media is used with bad motives, it becomes a weapon. A tool for humiliation, revenge, manipulation, and spreading stories that may not even be true. One post can go viral within minutes. A rumour can reach millions before the truth even has a chance to speak. Lately, I came across news surrounding “Justice for Yu Menglong.” There were so many stories, so many versions, so many voices online — and honestly, I did not know what was true anymore or what to believe. Then I thought about South Korean actor Kim Soo-hyun, who also fa...

The Hidden Price of Fame: A Life Behind the Spotlight

Image
Many of us grow up believing that the entertainment world is glamorous, exciting and filled with endless happiness. To become a singer, to stand on stage, to be loved by millions of fans — it seems like a dream life with fame, fortune and no worries at all. I used to think the same way until I came across the story of Yu Menglong and watched his YouTube videos. His story touched me deeply. Behind the smiles, performances and fame was actually a lonely man carrying a heavy burden in silence. He shared how he often had to hide his true feelings, tell lies to protect his image, and could not honestly express himself to fans. It was as though he was trapped inside a cage built by fame itself. A cage filled with deep silence. His rise to fame began after participating in singing competitions in Spain and on America’s Got Talent . His talent and emotional voice captured many hearts around the world. One of the most touching moments was when he sang for his mother who was sufferin...

Wake, Work, Sleep - Is This the Meaning of Life?

Image
Wake, Work, Sleep — Is This the Meaning of Life? Every morning before sunrise, while most people are still asleep, somewhere out there a food hawker is already awake. He drives to the market while the sky is still dark. He buys vegetables, meat, spices, noodles, cooking oil, eggs. He carries heavy bags back home. Then begins the preparation — peeling onions, cutting potatoes, marinating meat, boiling soup, preparing sauces. Hours of unseen labor before the first customer even arrives. By the time the city wakes up, he has already lived half a day. Then the stall opens. Heat. Smoke. Sweat. Endless orders. Some customers are kind, some impatient. When the business ends, exhaustion remains. But tomorrow, the same cycle repeats again. And it is not only the hawkers. Look at the office workers. Doctors. Accountants. Scientists. Engineers. Teachers. Every morning they dress neatly, leave home early, sit in traffic for one hour, arrive at offices, stare at screens, attend me...

When Thoughts Echo Back: Is AI Listening to Our Minds?

Image
Sometimes I think life is strange these days. Whatever we think about, read, or even casually wonder about somehow seems to appear right in front of us out of nowhere. Every morning, I make it a habit to read two books slowly, page by page, taking time to absorb the storyline and reflect on the meaning behind the words. One of the books I am currently rereading is The Choice by Dr. Edith Eva Eger. The book speaks about Auschwitz in 1944 and the suffering of Hungarian Jews during the war. Interestingly, the first time I read the book, I did not pay much attention to the words “Auschwitz” or “Hungarian Jews.” I simply followed the story. But the second time around, I found myself pausing and thinking more deeply about it. What was Auschwitz really like? How horrifying must it have been? I could not fully picture the reality. Then something unexpected happened. While checking my emails, a column from Quora suddenly appeared discussing Auschwitz and Hungarian Jews, complete...
